What's Not to Love About Brevard County?

Located between Jacksonville and Miami and just 35 miles west of Orlando, Brevard County offers over 70 miles of beautiful pristine beaches and some of the best surfing in Florida. Also referred to as the Space Coast, Brevard County is home to Kennedy Space Center where you can tour the launch facilities, experience a spectacular Shuttle launch or Delta rocket launch and even meet an astronaut. The area code for most of the county became 321 in 1999 as in the "3...2...1 LIFT OFF" countdown sequence. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway along the eastern edge of Brevard County is the major waterway route in Brevard County and includes the Indian River.  The Merritt Island National Wildlife RefugeCanaveral National Seashore  and Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge are 3 national wildlife refuges in the county that offer recreational pursuits such as hiking, wildlife viewing, paddling, and environmental education. There are numerous Florida State Parks including  Sebastian Inlet State Park which is considered the premier saltwater fishing spot on Florida's east coast and is a favorite for anglers nationwide for catching snook, redfish, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel from its jetties. Surfing is also a popular recreation and several major competitions are held here every year. The Space Coast's beautiful beaches provide great opportunities for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, shelling, and sunbathing. Boating, canoeing and kayaking in the Indian River Lagoon are also favorite pastimes. The Indian River Lagoon is a grouping of three lagoons: Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River, and the Indian River. The Indian River Lagoon is North America’s most diverse estuary with more than 2,200 different species of animals and 2,100 species of plants. The lagoon also has one of the most diverse bird populations anywhere in America. Nearly 1/3 of the nation’s manatee population lives here or migrates through the Lagoon seasonally. In addition, its ocean beaches provide one of the densest Sea Turtle nesting areas found in the Western Hemisphere. Visit Florida's Space Coast Office of Tourism  for a variety of information and links to some of the best things to do and see.
